  1. Total purse: For IPL 2025, each team will have a purse of ₹120 crore, i.e. ₹20 crore more than the previous IPL

  1. Player retention: Up to six players can be retained in IPL 2025 mega auction, i.e two more from the previous rule set during 2022 mega auction, wherein only four players could be retained. The teams will have the right to retain a maximum of five capped players and maximum of two uncapped players.

  1. RTM returns: The Right To Match card is back for the first time since 2017. The RTM card was discarded during the 2022 mega auction as players had expressed their dissatisfaction over the rule, as they felt it didn’t allow them to get a fair price at the auction.

The RTM rule returns with one modification. The team against whom the RTM card has been used will have the right to increase the final bid for the player, thereby ensuring the player gets paid more and the team using the RTM card have to spend more from their purse.

Besides, for every player the teams don’t retain, the team will be granted an RTM card. So, if a team can retain up to six players, but ends up retaining only four, that team gets to use two RTM cards.

  1. Impact player: The impact player rule has been retained till IPL 2027, after the team owners voted for the rules’ retention despite criticism from former players like India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma.

  1. Uncapped” Indian player(s): According to the new rule, if a capped international player hasn’t played an international match or hasn’t featured in the playing XI or doesn’t have a central BCCI contract, then the player can be considered as an uncapped player. This rule can now allow CSK to retain their talisman MSD as an uncapped player.
